Discovering the New Testament

Discovering the New Testament is a new and comprehensive introduction to the New Testament in three volumes, reflecting current research and scholarship in New Testament studies. Each volume provides a thorough discussion of background issues as well as treating theological themes and practical application. Ideal for college or seminary students, the volumes provide numerous maps and charts, as well as discussion questions for each chapter and a focus on real-life relevance and application.

The second volume is devoted to the life and writings of the apostle Paul. It traces Paul's early life, conversion, and missionary journeys, overviews the contours of his theology, and surveys the authorship, form, and content of his letters.

Praise for Discovering the New Testament

Combining a look at Paul with an examination of his letters, Keown has given us a thorough and fair look at Paul’s momentous contribution to the New Testament and early Christian theology. Anyone will be well served by working with this study.

—Darrell L. Bock, senior research professor of New Testament studies, Dallas Theological Seminary

This book introduces and surveys Paul’s letters, but it does more than that. Here readers will find much wise pastoral advice and application to the contemporary church that Keown has learned from his years as a biblical scholar and teacher, a pastor and an evangelist.

—Phillip Church, senior research fellow, School of Theology, Laidlaw College

This is everything I’d look for in an introduction to the New Testament: clear, comprehensive, easy to read and with lots of excellent questions to consider. With a thorough discussion of Paul’s life, a detailed overview of each Pauline letter, and an insightful treatment of Paul’s theology, Mark Keown has written a book that will be greatly appreciated by students and all those who want to discover the New Testament in greater depth.

—Paul Trebilco, professor of New Testament studies, Theology Programme, University of Otago

Keown has crafted an accessible yet detailed overview of the life and writings of the apostle Paul that offers something for new and old believers alike. This is an indispensable tool for anyone who wants to go beyond a mere cursory reading of the New Testament and truly immerse themselves in the history, culture and message of the Bible but do so in a way that isn’t dry or unnecessarily academic.

—Andrew Gardener, senior pastor, The Vine Church, Hong Kong
